The word "boss" is misleading in Tarkov: it is not a separate genre of fight, just an ordinary enemy with a bigger health pool and an entourage. The difference between him and a regular Scav is in the numbers, and the numbers are worth knowing in advance.

Health pools

Our database has 21 entries, but three of them are variations of the same enemy on different maps. That leaves eighteen unique ones:

What those numbers mean in practice

This is the total pool across all body parts, not "how much you have to shoot through". In Tarkov death comes from zeroing the head or the thorax, not from cumulative damage. So Zryachiy's 1655 does not mean you need three times more rounds than for a regular Scav — it means he has a reserve everywhere, and a stray hit to an arm settles nothing.

One practical conclusion: against bosses what works is accuracy and penetration, not calibre. A round that does not defeat armour will not get better because you fire it twenty times.

Who a new player might touch

The honest answer is nobody. But if you really want to:

Who definitely not: Zryachiy (1655 plus the Lighthouse guards), Kaban, Kollontay and Partisan. They kill faster than you can work out where the shots came from.

Why kill them at all

Some tasks require specific bosses — sometimes fifteen times each. It is one of the longest parts of the late game and needs planning ahead: bosses do not appear in every raid, only with a chance.

> That is exactly why information about where the Goons are right now is valuable — they migrate between maps. We have a separate tracker for that, fed by player reports.
