Most tasks in Tarkov cannot be failed — they can only be left unfinished. But there are exceptions: tasks with a condition that stays in force the whole time the task is active. Break it and you fail, and often you will not even notice straight away.
We went through the entire database and found nine such tasks among the current ones.
The list
**Disinformation** (Skier) — do not kill Scavs on Customs until the task is done.
**The Survivalist Path: Tough Guy** (Jaeger) — do not use medical items while the task is active.
**Hippocratic Oath** (Therapist) — do not kill Sanitar.
**Escort** (Prapor) — you must not die or leave the raid.
**Wild Ones** (Fence) — kill 7 PMCs without killing Scavs.
**Small Business: Part 2** (Fence) — kill 10 boss guards without touching the bosses themselves.
**Gladiator Routine: The Exam** (Ref) — win the round without dying at the end.
**The Ticket** (story) — in PVE, kill 5 PMCs in one raid without killing Scavs.
**Dad** (story) — eliminate four PMCs without dying.
What they have in common
Almost every condition is about restraint. Not shooting the thing your hands want to shoot. Disinformation and Wild Ones break on a single random Scav popping round a corner. Tough Guy breaks on one painkiller at the wrong moment.
How not to get caught
**Take these tasks deliberately.** Not in a "accept everything on offer" bundle, but on their own, for a specific raid.
**Check your active tasks before you head out.** If Disinformation is on the list and you are going to Customs to farm, you are going to fail it.
**"Do not kill Scavs" usually covers every Scav**, Raiders and Rogues included, not just the ordinary ones.
**Tasks you put aside are still active.** The game does not ask whether you remembered the condition.
> The nastiest one is Escort: you can neither die nor leave the raid. Extracting early is the same as dying.
Why there are so few
The developers dropped hard failures almost everywhere — there used to be more. They kept them where the condition is the point of the task. That is arguably right: failing by accident is infuriating, while failing because you broke an explicit ban is fair.
On each task page here these conditions are quoted verbatim in the objectives, and the tactical notes carry a separate warning.
