We added up the rewards for every current task. The result is 9,833,482 XP — and the figure is more interesting than it looks, because it immediately explains several popular misconceptions.
The mean is nearly twice the median, which is the classic sign of a figure being dragged upwards by a small group of very expensive tasks.
All of them need level 50 or above. Which means quest experience is arranged so that most of it is out of reach until you have levelled some other way.
You cannot level from scratch on tasks. Half of them are available from level one, but they pay 5,000–15,000 each. To reach the expensive ones you already have to be high level.
Tasks are not a source of experience, they are a source of purpose. They lead you across the maps, unlock traders, hand you gear and keys. The experience is a side effect.
Comparing "how much XP is in the game" between sources is useless. Patch 1.1 rewrote the rewards, tying them to trader loyalty levels. Any table built before the patch now shows different numbers — and that is not an error by whoever built it, it is a change of rules.
Separately: the Kappa chain accounts for 3,140,590 XP — roughly a third of all task experience. That is not a reason to collect Kappa for the experience, but it does explain why players with Kappa are almost always high level.
> One practical conclusion: do not pick tasks by the size of the reward. Pick them by where they take you, and the experience will follow.
